2022 Netflix Movie ‘Foretells’ Ohio Train Wreck

Netflix viewers found a striking resemblance between the recent film and the chemical spill that took place in Ohio earlier this month.
On February 3, a 50-car train derailed in a small town in Eastern Palestine, leaking chemicals such as vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether.
More than 2,000 residents were ordered to evacuate nearby buildings due to health concerns related to the spill, but were later allowed to return.
Based on the critically acclaimed 1985 novel by American author Don DeLillo, the film is about a death-crazed academic (driver) and his family.
One of the most important plot points in the book and film is a train derailment that releases tons of toxic chemicals into the air, somewhat euphemistically known as an airborne toxic event.
Viewers have noted similarities between the disaster depicted in the film and the recent Ohio oil spill.
A resident of East Palestine, Ben Ratner, spoke about the strange similarity in an interview with People magazine.
“Let’s talk about art that imitates life,” he said. “This is a really scary situation. You drive yourself crazy just thinking about how striking the resemblance between what’s happening now and that movie is.”
Concerns about the long-term effects of the disaster continue to grow, with reports saying local wildlife is at risk.
